For if you think of it, there is a London cognita, and a London incognita...

The London Adventure or The Art of Wandering
Arthur Machen

Largely overlooked during his lifetime, Welsh mystic Arthur Machen
(1863 – 1947) was a writer of supernatural tales depicting hidden,
wonderful and sinister worlds lurking behind the mundane surface
of the everyday. Published in 1924 (and until this edition out of print
for almost half a century), The London Adventure or The Art of
Wandering
is a curious anomaly in Machen's bibliography. Composed
as an autobiographical walk through London, the novel is a veiled
treatise on reading the urban landscape through coincidence and
imagination.
